Residents of the Afghan capital Kabul have been cooling off in the city's first ever water park. Young Afghans say they are delighted with the newly-opened facility and keen to ride a few waves. Kabul's newest attraction is making quite a splash. The Kabul Water Park, with its towering water slides and multiple swimming pools, is proving to be refreshing destination on a hot summer day. The centre, on the western side of the city, has been especially popular with university students who have welcomed the positive changes in the former war-torn country. "I feel really happy because nowadays there are a lot of facilities for us in Afghanistan, around four or five years ago we didn't have anything, but now we have everything," says 17-year-old Ahmad Edris. The Afghan capital, Kabul, has opened its first amusement park. Families in Kabul, where there are over five million people, have seen their fair share of bombings and attacks. "In order to bring smiles to the faces of our people we have decided to build this park in the capital of Kabul for the children and residents of Kabul to enjoy and be entertained whenever they want. Our people deserve to have such a park that they can enjoy," owner of City Park, Almas Qasimi said. Farooq Safi brought his children to this amusement park and he agrees that it's a nice addition to the city. "There is no doubt that there was three decades of war in our country but God willing we are so delighted right now to have such a park in our city, that we can enjoy with our children and family here," he said...

Until recently, commuters in Kabul city faced hazardous traveling conditions, especially during winter and on rainy days. Sidewalks and roads were muddy and, with was no drainage system, water from rain and melted snow led to pedestrians slipping and vehicles skidding. With funding support from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund, the Kabul Urban Transport Efficiency Improvement (KUTEI) Project will continue to 2019 to improve transit, sanitation, safety, and boost businesses in Kabul city for many.

A state of the art water park is giving residents of Afghanistan the chance to have fun and forget their fears of a potential Taliban takeover, though not everyone is welcome to enjoy this sign of Western civilization. After the armed guards and body search at the door, only men leap down colourful slides and splash into the water, as women are not allowed access here.
